Former Qarabag midfielder returns to Cape Verde squad after three-year absence

Former Qarabag midfielder Leandro Andrade has been recalled to the Cape Verde national team after a three-year absence.

As reported by İdman.Biz, the 27-year-old footballer has been included in the squad for two upcoming matches against Liberia in the qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Andrade last represented Cape Verde in November 2023, when he was still playing for Azerbaijani champions Qarabag.

The midfielder has made seven appearances for his national team to date.

Since joining Ukrainian club Polissya, Andrade has demonstrated solid form. This season, he has featured in 12 matches across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

Cape Verde have endured a disappointing start to their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, losing their opening two matches against Mali (1-3) and Rwanda (1-2).

The upcoming encounters with Liberia will therefore be crucial for the team's hopes of improving their position in the qualification standings.

Andrade moved from Qarabag to Polissya in the summer of 2026, ending a successful spell with the Azerbaijani club.

During his time in Aghdam, he won four Azerbaijani Premier League titles and two national cups.
