Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike apologized to fans and his team for being sent off in the League Cup Round of 32 match against Southampton, Idman.biz reports.
"I was so eager to help the team secure another victory at home in my first League Cup match… Emotions got the better of me. I apologize to the entire Red family, thank you to the fans who always support us, and to my teammates for this win!" the footballer wrote on his social media.
Ekitike took off his shirt and showed it to the fans after scoring in the 85th minute against Southampton. At that moment, he already had a yellow card. As a result, the forward received a second booking and was sent off just a minute after his goal.
The French striker joined Liverpool from Eintracht last summer. Since then, he has played in eight matches across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing one assist.
