Liverpool manager Arne Slot defended the referee’s decision to add just three minutes of stoppage time in their 2-1 victory over Everton on Saturday, dismissing claims his team was wasting time.
Idman.biz, citing Reuters, reports that Everton boss David Moyes called the added time "very strange," while Jack Grealish suggested Liverpool were "trying to slow the game down at times." Grealish was booked after the final whistle for confronting the referee.
Liverpool had taken a 2-0 lead through first-half goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike, but Idrissa Gueye’s second-half strike set up a tense finish. Slot told the club’s website that the three minutes were "completely correct" as there were only three substitutions, no injuries, and one goal.
He added that Liverpool’s mentality is always to score, saying, "I would have loved to play on three or four seconds more because we were in a five-v-two situation." The team now prepares to face Southampton in the League Cup before traveling to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
