Barcelona vice-president hits back at Atletico Madrid over Julian Alvarez claims

Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste has responded to comments made by Atletico Madrid chief executive Miguel Angel Gil regarding a potential move for Argentine forward Julian Alvarez to the Catalan club.

As reported by İdman.Biz, Gil previously stated that Atletico Madrid had no intention of entering into negotiations with Barcelona over Alvarez. The Madrid club also accused the Catalans of unethical conduct and attempting to influence the player.

Yuste strongly criticized Gil's remarks.

"These words cross a red line. Considering that these comments come from Miguel Angel Gil himself, I simply don't understand them. I don't share this position and, of course, I am unhappy with statements of this kind," COPE quoted Yuste as saying.

The Barcelona official stressed that his club respects Atletico Madrid and other teams, as well as players contracted to them.

"We respect our rivals, Atletico Madrid as a club, and all footballers around the world. If a player wants to join our team, of course, that makes us happy. We are completely calm. Our conscience would never allow us to act against the principles of sport and professionalism," Yuste added.

Alvarez has been linked with a possible move to Barcelona, but Atletico Madrid have made it clear that they are unwilling to negotiate the departure of the Argentina international.
