Inter Miami, where Lionel Messi plays, have announced a change in their coaching staff.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the MLS club have reached an agreement with Argentine coach Cristian Gonzalez, with the appointment officially confirmed by Inter Miami.
The 52-year-old will replace Guillermo Hoyos as head coach. Gonzalez will take charge once the necessary work permit procedures have been completed. Hoyos will continue to lead the team in the interim.
Gonzalez's appointment is also notable because of his connection with Messi. Both Argentines were born in Rosario. Gonzalez began his playing career at Rosario Central and later went on to coach the club. He has also managed Union and Platense.
During his playing career, Gonzalez shared the pitch with Messi for the Argentina national team. Their paths crossed in 2005 during the FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Inter Miami currently sit second in the MLS Eastern Conference but are without a victory in their last five matches, having suffered four defeats and recorded one draw.
Once Gonzalez officially takes charge, he will become Inter Miami's third head coach of the season.
