“I haven’t worked with Portugal since 2004, and I don’t think people in my country would look favorably if I led another national team.”
Fenerbahce’s head coach Jose Mourinho said this in an interview with Sporty Net, Idman.biz reports.
The 62-year-old experienced Portuguese coach spoke about his future career, noting that working with a national team is not out of the question: “My first experience with a national team should be with Portugal. Afterwards, people need to understand that this is my profession, so I can work with other teams as well.”
He also emphasized his connections with other countries he might coach: “Brazil, of course, has historical ties with us. England is like my home, and I worked in Italy for several years. But my first national team experience should be with Portugal.”
Mourinho signed a 2+1 year contract with Fenerbahce in 2024.
