Arif Asadov, who works as an instructor at UEFA coaching courses held in Baku, shared his thoughts on the start of the new season in the Misli Premier League.
The former coach of the Azerbaijan national team told AZERTAC that the teams have not yet fully adapted to the new “football year.”, Idman.biz reports.
Commenting on the first round, which featured four matches, the expert noted that nothing particularly remarkable was observed in terms of results or gameplay: “This is understandable because in the first rounds, teams compete at a similar level. In the upcoming matches, the differences will become much clearer.”
He stated that four teams will compete for the championship: “These are Qarabag, Neftchi, Sabah, and Zira. Araz-Nakhchivan and Turan Tovuz are the main candidates for a spot in the Conference League. I think Shamakhi and Sumgayit can also be added to this list. They will challenge the leaders during the season. Karvan-Yevlakh, Imishli, Kapaz, and Gabala will fight to stay in the Premier League. As I mentioned, after 3-4 rounds, it will be possible to talk more comprehensively about all clubs.”
In the first round, Turan Tovuz defeated İmişli 1:0, and Sumgayit beat Kapaz 3:0. The matches Karvan-Yevlakh vs. Gabala and Neftchi vs. Shamakhi ended in 1:1 draws. The Sabah vs. Qarabag game was postponed, while the Zira vs. Araz-Nakhchivan match will take place on August 19.
