Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma says the national team want to restore the supporters' connection with the Azzurri after missing out on this summer's World Cup.
Roberto Mancini has returned as Italy head coach and will now look to change the atmosphere surrounding the national team as they begin a new chapter.
As reported by İdman.Biz, Donnarumma admitted in an interview with Sky Sport that the summer was difficult for him as an Italy international.
"It's difficult for me to describe, but it was a very different and long summer. Now we have a great desire to get started. We are entering a new era and we have to follow a new path.
"The fans have every right to be disappointed. It is up to us to create the energy needed for them to fall in love with the national team shirt again," Donnarumma said.
Italy will host Belgium this evening in the opening round of the UEFA Nations League.
