Interview with Karvan-Yevlakh’s new signing Kyle Spence on Futbolinfo.az.
You joined Karvan-Yevlakh about a month ago. Have you fully adapted to your new club and teammates?
I am gradually adjusting to the new environment. The hot weather is a bit challenging, but I’m slowly getting used to it. I can gladly say that people here are very kind, and my teammates are highly professional, which makes the adaptation process much easier for me. I’m looking forward to contributing to the team and developing together with such a talented squad.
What has pleasantly surprised you the most about your new club?
What impressed me most positively about Karvan-Yevlakh is the club’s level of development and ambition. My agents had told me about this beforehand. At the same time, the unwavering support of the fans is very inspiring and creates a motivating atmosphere. Last season, the team had the highest number of spectators in the First League, which was impressive. I can’t wait to see them in the stands this season in the Premier League.
Karvan-Yevlakh will return to the Azerbaijan Premier League after a long break. Are you aware of what this means for the club and its supporters? Do you think the comeback will be successful?
Yes, I believe Karvan-Yevlakh can have a very successful return to the Azerbaijan Premier League. The Yevlakh team was the first Azerbaijani club to pass the first qualifying round of a UEFA Cup, which is a major achievement. This legacy creates pride and high expectations among both the fans and the team. If everyone works together for success, I’m confident Karvan-Yevlakh will make a strong and inspiring comeback.
The championship starts on August 15, and your first match is against Gabala. How do you assess your chances?
We have both quality and a strong desire to succeed. Our team is focused on winning, and every player is ready to give their best on the field. We don’t play to lose – we fight together and believe we will win. We trust our abilities and are ready to give everything we have.
Are you aware that Gabala is coached by your compatriot and Arsenal legend, Tony Adams?
First of all, I am an Arsenal fan, and Tony Adams is one of my heroes. I’ll never forget the moment at the Danone Cup when he stopped his car to greet me and take a photo, he was very kind and sincere. I’m sure his work at Gabala has had a positive and long-term impact on the club. He’s a true role model both on and off the pitch. It’s funny now, when I first saw Adams at age nine, I never imagined one day we’d both be in Azerbaijan.
Everyone predicts that the new season of the Azerbaijan Premier League will be more competitive. Does this give you extra motivation?
I completely agree. A more competitive season increases motivation. You can be sure that as the team members get to know each other better and the team chemistry develops, watching us will be very exciting. We are ready to fight for every point and make this season memorable.
