Bagaliy Dabo’s interview with Teleqraf, former player of Gabala and Neftchi (2016–2020)
– First, let’s talk about your retirement. Was this a decision you had planned?
– To be honest, it was on my mind, but yes, it was a difficult decision because I still feel I could play. I just lost the motivation to continue.
– Do you feel closer to Gabala or Neftchi fans?
– I feel a deep connection with both fan bases because I still receive messages of support from them. I continue to follow both Gabala and Neftchi’s games and news. Right now, I’m a fan of both clubs.
– Which coach in Azerbaijan do you think you played most successfully under?
– I’d say Roman Grygorchuk, because I spent two full seasons with him. I’d also mention Roberto Bordin.
– Which match do you remember most from your time in Azerbaijan?
– From my time at Gabala, the matches against Maribor and Neftchi. From my Neftchi days, the match against Qarabag. After scoring against them, we celebrated like crazy.
– Do you think Azerbaijani football has improved or declined since your departure?
– I watch a lot of matches. Right now, Azerbaijani football is at a higher level. A lot of quality players are coming in, which makes the league truly exciting.
– Do you plan to stay in football as a coach, scout, or agent?
– Honestly, I want to stay away from football for now. But in the future, I’d like to get all the necessary licenses, because in football, you never say never.
– Would you consider working as a coach in Azerbaijan?
– Why not?! I like the mentality in Azerbaijan, but coaching isn’t my main goal.
– What is Neftchi missing to become champions again?
– Neftchi just needs time. Success doesn’t come overnight. But big clubs like Neftchi aren’t usually given much time. I believe they’ll achieve better results this year. Samir Abasov has already succeeded at Neftchi. I believe they’ll fight for European competition spots next season.
– Gabala has returned to the Premier League after a one-year break. How do you think they’ll perform?
– I followed them last year too. They’ve made good signings. I’m confident Gabala will compete for European spots.
– Do you stay in touch with any of your former teammates from Azerbaijan?
– Yes, I keep in touch with Elvin Jamalov, Tellur Mutallimov, Araz Abdullayev, Murad Musayev, Asif Mammadov, Gismet Aliyev, Tural Akhundov, and a few young players.
