UEFA suspends Araz-Nakhchivan’s Igor Ribeiro for one match

The duration of the suspension for “Araz-Nakhchivan” player Igor Ribeiro, who received a straight red card in the second leg of the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round match against Greece’s “Aris,” has been determined.

Idman.biz, citing Teleqraf, reports that UEFA has suspended the 28-year-old defender for one match.

The Brazilian centre-back will serve his suspension in the Nakhchivan club’s home match against Cyprus’ Omonia in the third qualifying round, which will be held on August 7 at Dalga Arena in Baku.

The club management will keep the player on the squad list for upcoming games. Therefore, Ribeiro’s appearance in the return leg against “Omonia” on August 14 in Nicosia is not ruled out.

Although Ribeiro signed a contract with “Neftchi” during the summer transfer window, based on an inter-club agreement, he was to assist “Araz-Nakhchivan” in the Conference League until August 1. However, since the player was sent off with a red card in the 52nd minute of the return match against “Aris,” it was unclear with which club he would serve his suspension. If he had returned to “Neftchi” immediately, he would have missed the first match of any European competition the club might qualify for next season.

Considering this, “Araz-Nakhchivan” did not remove Ribeiro from the squad list for the “Omonia” match. It is still uncertain whether the player will participate in the second leg after serving his one-match ban.
