Chloe Kelly struck the winning penalty as England defeated Spain 3-1 in a shootout to win the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 title, defending their crown after a 1-1 draw in extra time.
Idman.biz, citing Reuters, reports that Spain controlled much of the match and took the lead in the 25th minute when Mariona Caldentey headed in from Ona Batlle’s cross. England responded in the second half, with Alessia Russo nodding home an equalizer from a Kelly delivery in the 57th minute.
Despite Spain dominating possession throughout normal and extra time, they couldn’t break through England’s solid defense again.
In the shootout, keeper Hannah Hampton became the hero, saving two penalties to cancel out Beth Mead’s early miss. After Spain’s Salma Paralluelo missed, Kelly calmly converted the final spot-kick, echoing her Euro 2022 heroics.
“I was cool, I was composed,” Kelly said post-match. The win marks England’s second consecutive European title and the first final to be decided by penalties since 1984.
