Mahmud Gurbanov: "The return match in Greece will be difficult for Araz-Nakhchivan"

The return match will be difficult for “Araz-Nakhchivan”, who defeated Greece’s “Aris” (2:1) in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round held in Baku.

This was stated in an interview with Report news agency by former coach of the Azerbaijan national team, Mahmud Gurbanov, Idman.biz reports.

The expert gave high marks to the Nakhchivan team’s performance: “Araz-Nakhchivan’s game, result, and aggression were all good and satisfactory. There was strong desire, a winning spirit, and fight. Let’s not forget that the opponent is not an easy one, and the return match will be difficult for ‘Araz-Nakhchivan’, despite their narrow win. Yesterday, the Nakhchivan team didn’t give ‘Aris’ many chances. Although Greek fans are passionate, the ‘Araz-Nakhchivan’ players are experienced. They won’t be affected by the pressure from the crowd and will focus on their own game.”

The veteran footballer also shared his thoughts on the team’s chances of advancing: “Araz-Nakhchivan’s chances of progressing are equal to those of the Greek club. The goal difference is small, and the opponent will be playing at home. Moreover, they have dangerous players. That said, ‘Araz-Nakhchivan’ also has a solid squad and achieved a good result in the first leg. For example, Patrick Andrade has played in Azerbaijan for years. Felipe Santos did his job, scored a goal, and played well. As for the new transfers, it’s too early to say anything. Overall, the team has strong attacking potential.”

The return match between the teams will be held on July 31 in Greece.
