Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, Mexico's all-time top scorer and former Manchester United striker, has been fined and warned by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) after making remarks on TikTok.
Idman.biz, citing BBC, reports that now playing for Chivas, the 37-year-old claimed that women are "failing" and "eradicating masculinity," adding, “Don’t be afraid to be women, to allow yourselves to be led by a man.”
The FMF deemed the comments to promote stereotypes and media violence, violating principles of gender equality in sport. Mexico’s first female president, Claudia Sheinbaum, condemned the remarks, saying Hernandez “still has a lot to learn” about women.
The FMF's Gender and Diversity Commission has opened an investigation and warned of stricter penalties for future offenses. Chivas called his comments contrary to club values and stated they had taken appropriate action. Hernandez rejoined Chivas in 2023 after stints across Europe and MLS.
