UEFA opens disciplinary investigation into Fenerbahce, Guendouzi and Greenwood

UEFA has opened a disciplinary investigation into Turkish club Fenerbahce and two of their players, Matteo Guendouzi and Mason Greenwood.

As reported by İdman.Biz, the proceedings were initiated following the second leg of Fenerbahce's UEFA Champions League play-off tie against Lyon. The Istanbul club confirmed that it had received an official notification from UEFA regarding the investigation.

In a statement, Fenerbahce said that all necessary information, documents and defence materials would be submitted to the relevant UEFA bodies in order to protect the rights and interests of both the club and its players.

The club did not disclose the specific disciplinary provisions under which the investigation is being conducted.

Tensions flared on the pitch in the closing stages of the second leg and continued after the final whistle. Guendouzi, in particular, attracted attention for his actions and gestures towards opposition supporters.

Fenerbahce drew the first leg against Lyon 1-1 before securing a 2-1 away victory in the return fixture. The Turkish side advanced 3-2 on aggregate to qualify for the league phase of the Champions League.
