Sabah defender vows to "eat Lamine Yamal alive" in Baku

Sabah defender Tymoteusz Puchacz has shared his expectations ahead of the UEFA Champions League league-phase matchday five encounter against Barcelona, scheduled for November 25 in Baku.

As reported by İdman.Biz, the Polish footballer explained in detail how he intends to deal with one of the Catalan club's biggest stars, Lamine Yamal.

The 27-year-old admitted that he closely follows the Spanish winger's performances but often finds his ability to create dangerous situations frustrating for opposing defenders.

"I watch Barcelona's matches and just get frustrated. Whatever he does, he still manages to create danger," Puchacz told Kanał Sportowy.

According to the Sabah defender, Yamal is equally dangerous when moving in either direction.

"If you let him go to the right, he can shoot. And if you give him even half a meter of space when he cuts to the left, he can send a dangerous shot into the top corner. I still don't know the perfect way to stop a player like that. Maybe I'll have to stick to him like glue," Puchacz said with a smile.

The Polish international understands that stopping Yamal through individual effort alone will be extremely difficult. In his view, preventing the Spanish winger from gaining momentum must be a collective responsibility.

However, Puchacz has already decided on his personal approach to the challenge.

"I'm going to be all over him. I'll try to get as close as possible and not give him a single centimeter of space," the defender declared.

He emphasized that he intends to stay close to Yamal throughout the match, engage him physically and prevent him from receiving the ball comfortably.

"I know exactly how difficult this challenge will be. But in a confrontation like this, I have almost nothing to lose. I can only win. He beats everyone. If he doesn't beat me, then I'm the winner," Puchacz explained.

The Sabah player also pointed to Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall as an example of how to approach a confrontation with the Barcelona youngster.

"I noticed how Lewis Hall played against Yamal for Newcastle. He tried to close down the space as much as possible, maintained tight contact and wasn't afraid to challenge him. I might watch that match again to pick up a few things before facing Barcelona," he said.

At the same time, Puchacz views the upcoming duel with the Spanish star as a unique experience that could prove valuable throughout his career.

"Playing against someone like him is something you remember for the rest of your life. If you manage to stop him even two or three times, that's already a victory," the Polish defender stressed.

Puchacz believes that matches against world-class opponents provide players with an opportunity to test their abilities and gain invaluable experience at the highest level of European football.

Sabah suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Borussia Dortmund on October 20 in the third round of the Champions League. Puchacz provided an assist during the match but later admitted his disappointment with the result, believing the Azerbaijani club had a realistic chance of securing a draw.

Before hosting Barcelona, Sabah will travel to Norway to face Viking on November 4.

The Sabah–Barcelona encounter will take place at Baku Olympic Stadium on November 25, with kick-off scheduled for 21:45 local time.
