Mourinho unhappy with Raul Asencio after drink-driving incident

Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho has commented on the situation involving defender Raul Asencio following the player's drink-driving incident.

As reported by İdman.Biz, the 23-year-old was stopped while driving on the island of Gran Canaria on August 16. A breath test reportedly showed 0.90 milligrams of alcohol per litre, well above the permitted limit of 0.25 mg/l.

Asencio was subsequently fined €14,400 and had his driving licence suspended for eight months.

"I spoke to him when I arrived about certain things from the past. Since I came here, I no longer talk about situations outside football. In training, he is an exemplary professional. When he was fit, nobody trained more or better than him," Mourinho was quoted as saying by Marca.

"Now he is the first to arrive and the last to leave. But a Real Madrid player remains a Real Madrid player 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 12 months a year. Everything you do away from the pitch still concerns Real Madrid. It continues to damage the prestige of the club, which is untouchable.

"I am not happy. Everyone makes mistakes, but accumulated mistakes are something different."

Mourinho added that Real Madrid have launched an investigation into the matter and that Asencio remains part of his squad while the process is ongoing.

"The club has opened an investigation. While the investigation continues, I consider him a Real Madrid player. He is injured and will remain injured for another couple of weeks. That helps me stay out of this situation," the Portuguese coach said.
