Interview with Alexei Savinov, former head coach of Moldova's Petrocub, for Futbolinfo.az
– Since last month, you’ve been in charge of Bulgarian Second League club Fratria. How did the appointment come about? What goals have been set for you?
– Yes, I was appointed in June. The objectives for the new season are very ambitious – the main goal is to gain promotion to the top league.
– Have you ever received any offers from Azerbaijan as a coach? If invited, would you accept an offer from our country?
– I haven’t received any offers from Azerbaijan so far. But I have a strong connection with your country. I spent a fantastic 5 years there as a player. That period was a beautiful chapter in my football career. It’s possible that in the future I could achieve similar success in Azerbaijan as a coach. But right now, my full focus and attention are on Fratria. The club has big ambitions, and I believe we can meet the goals set by the management this season.
– The team you previously coached, Petrocub, will face Sabah in the Conference League. Who do you think is the favorite?
– I believe there is no clear favorite between Petrocub and Sabah. The chances are 50/50.
– What are the main strengths of the current Petrocub?
– Petrocub has always been strong in terms of teamwork. It’s a very organized and motivated team. They also have a coaching staff that knows how to achieve results.
– Which Petrocub players should Sabah pay special attention to? Who are the most dangerous players in the Moldovan club?
– Petrocub is a blend of youth and experience. They have experienced players and talented young ones in every position. But of course, the team’s leader and heart is captain Vladimir Ambros, who has been wearing the Petrocub shirt for many years.
– Could Sabah face strong pressure from local fans in the away match in Moldova?
– I’m sure the fans in Chisinau will fill the stadium and become a true “12th man”.
