Manchester United are set to sign Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo for £65m, bringing their summer spending on attacking players to £127.5m, following the earlier arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
Idman.biz, citing BBC, reports that United are desperate to fix their lack of goals after scoring just 44 in the Premier League last season, their worst top-flight return since 1973-74. Both Mbeumo and Cunha are expected to operate in creative number 10 roles, raising questions over whether the club still needs a new central striker.
Rasmus Hojlund and new arrival Joshua Zirkzee may benefit from the increased attacking support, but doubts remain about their ability to lead the line.
Former Premier League winner Chris Sutton commented, “United want players who have done it at this level, Mbeumo fits that mold. He brings energy, pressing, and crucially, goals. But whether that's enough without a proven number nine is still unclear.”
United may not be done in the transfer market just yet.
