Footballer who left Qarabag: "I don’t want to talk about how I was treated" – INTERVIEW

Interview with Redon Xhixha after leaving Qarabag

- What was the real reason for leaving Qarabag?

- The reason was that I did not get enough playing time.

- There were rumors you would leave the club mid-season. Did the club tell you to look for a new team?

- Qarabag never told me to look for another club. I had wanted to leave for over a year, but they didn’t allow it.

- How did your move to SSPA Shabab Riadi Belouizdad happen?

- The offer came, and I chose the Algerian club because I think it’s the right choice for me.

- Did your former teammate from Algeria, Yassin Benzia, give you any information about the club?

- Yes, Yassin gave me some information. The feedback was positive. I believe this choice will have a positive impact on my career.

- You played 73 games, scored 13 goals, and made 5 assists, fans appreciate your performance. But some criticize the club for not allowing you to fully showcase your talent. Do you feel you were treated unfairly?

- I thank the fans who always believed in and supported me. I have always felt their love. I’m grateful for everything. As for how I was treated, I prefer not to talk about that.

- How did your two years at Qarabag affect your career? Do you have any regrets?

- It had a positive effect because I improved my level as a player. But I regret not getting enough playing time to show my full potential.

- How will you remember your time in Azerbaijan? Have you received offers from other clubs, and would you consider returning?

- I will remember my days in Azerbaijan fondly. I liked it there a lot and will miss it. I have not received any offers from Azerbaijani clubs, but if an opportunity arises, why not return?

- What was your most unforgettable game so far?

- The match in 2023 during the Champions League second qualifying round against Rakow in Poland where we lost 2-3. I managed to score two goals in three minutes. Also, the friendly against Galatasaray, which we lost 1-2, was memorable because of the fantastic atmosphere and because I scored.

- Have you talked personally with coach Gurban Gurbanov about why you got limited playing time?

- No, I have never had a conversation with the coach about why I didn’t play more.

- What are your goals as a footballer?

- My goal is to play as much as possible, score goals, and represent the Albanian national team.

- Did you leave Azerbaijan with any dissatisfaction or grudges?

- I have no dissatisfaction, but I will really miss Baku. I’m already missing it, to be honest.
