Croatian football legend Robert Jarni, a former player of Real Madrid, Juventus, and the Croatian national team, shared his thoughts with AZERTAC ahead of the upcoming UEFA Europa Conference League clash between Zira and Hajduk Split.
– What are your thoughts on Hajduk’s chances against Zira?
– At the moment, Hajduk is not in ideal shape. Several players have left, and the squad is being rebuilt. It’s hard to predict how the team will perform. There are new players who need time to adapt. Right now, the situation is not like it was a couple of years ago. Expectations are higher this season, but only time will tell how things unfold and who’s ready to step up.
– Are you familiar with Zira?
– To be honest, I don’t know them in detail. But from what I’ve heard, Zira is a team that has shown a good image on the pitch. That said, we’ll only know who’s stronger once the game kicks off.
– Do you know Zira’s head coach Rashad Sadygov? He’s well known in Azerbaijan for his time with the national team and Qarabag.
– Unfortunately, I don’t know him personally. But I’d like the opportunity to get to know him.
– What’s your impression of Azerbaijani football?
– I’ve been away from coaching for a while, but I’ve heard quite a bit about Azerbaijan from Robert Prosinecki, who used to manage the national team. He told me the clubs are well-organized, and that the players are fully committed when they step onto the pitch.
– Qarabag has had notable success in European competitions. What do you think of them?
– I’ve watched one of Qarabag’s matches. They’ve made a name for themselves in Europe. Facing Qarabag isn’t easy for any team.
– If you received a coaching offer from Azerbaijan, would you consider it?
– Of course. Why not?
– Is there a specific Azerbaijani club you’d like to coach?
– It’s hard to name one right now, as I don’t know the clubs closely. But I’ve heard from colleagues working in Azerbaijan that local players give their all on the pitch and fight hard for victory.
