David Beckham to be knighted and made a sir

David Beckham to be knighted.

Idman.biz reports with reference to The Sun that the former member of the English national team will be presented with the title of knight bachelor.

From now on, he will be called sir, and his wife Victoria - lady.

The official awarding will take place at the end of June.

Politicians and athletes have been nominating Beckham for knighthood for years. For the first time, this topic came to the fore in 2011 for his services in the delivery of the 2012 Olympics to London. However, like many stars, the former England midfielder's candidacy was rejected due to his participation in a tax evasion scheme.

Beckham has also made a significant contribution to charity and collaborates with the Charles III Foundation. Last year, the king officially appointed him a charity ambassador.

Beckham was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003 for his services to football. With the knighthood, he will also be styled sir, although his OBE rank is not the same.
