Sabail plans to compete in the First Division with 2 or 3 foreign players
Idman.biz reports that the head coach of the capital club, Elvin Mammadov, shared this with Report news agency.
The coach stated that they want to give more opportunities to local players: “It’s been 10 days since we started preparations for the new season. Everything is going well. Our squad is gradually coming together. We are expecting 2-3 players to arrive. Once they do, we will be fully ready for the new season. These players will be attacking players. We are also negotiating with some local players, but I can't reveal their names since nothing is official yet. We intend to compete next season with a maximum of 2 or 3 foreign players.”
Mammadov also said the team will play its home matches at ASCO Arena: “We will play our matches at ASCO Arena. We’re currently training there. What’s being written in the media doesn’t fully reflect the truth. Everything is in order.”
The head coach also touched on the disbandment of the youth teams following the club’s relegation from the Premier League: “I had previously worked with the club’s U-19 team. We’ve brought three players from there into the main squad. We wanted all of them to stay. They were our future. But it didn’t work out. Each of them will now play for new clubs, they’ve already reached agreements. I hope we return to the Premier League and bring these young players back into the squad.”
According to the regulations of the First Division, clubs are allowed to use up to three foreign players in matches. They can sign up to seven foreign players throughout the season. The new First Division season will begin on September 11.
