“Azerbaijan’s national team always feels my support—I make sure they know I’m with them, watching every match from the stands.”
These words came from former national minifootball goalkeeper Davud Karimi, speaking to Idman.biz ahead of the highly anticipated Azerbaijan vs. England quarterfinal match at the Minifootball World Championship, currently being held in Baku.
Karimi shared his thoughts on the upcoming clash:
“I expect an exciting game and I truly hope it ends in our favor. I believe Azerbaijan has the upper hand in this match, although England is also a strong team.”
Reflecting on Azerbaijan’s impressive Round of 16 performance, where they eliminated reigning world champions Romania, Karimi emphasized the level of competition:
“That match could easily be called an early final. Our team will face other tough opponents if we advance, so they must stay focused. The squad is currently in great shape and we have plenty of players. However, the schedule will get more intense with daily matches coming up, which might bring some physical challenges.”
Karimi also praised the leadership within the team:
“Right now, everything looks solid. We’ve got talented players, and I’d especially like to mention our captain, Elvin Alizada—he’s truly one of the standout performers of this tournament.”
The Azerbaijan vs. England match kicks off at 20:30.
