Latvia’s national team head coach Paolo Nicolato has emphasized openness and opportunity in his recent remarks ahead of their June friendlies against Azerbaijan and Albania.
Idman.biz reports that the Italian tactician stated:
“As I said during my first press conference after arriving in Latvia, the national team’s doors are always open to everyone. Even those who’ve never played for the national team before have a chance. At the same time, no spot is guaranteed for those who’ve been here a long time. This applies to all players.”
Nicolato, who recently announced his 25-man squad, added that the team includes several newcomers, particularly standout performers from the U-21 side:
“We want to see new players in action. We’ll give them a chance to prove themselves. Some of them caught our attention with their performance in the U-21 team. I’ve spoken with them personally and I know they will wear the national jersey with pride.”
Latvia will host Azerbaijan on June 7 in Riga.
