“I’ll stay in football and continue doing what I love.”
These were the words of Kamal Bayramov, who has officially announced his retirement from professional football, in a statement to Idman.biz.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper, who most recently played for Shamakhi during the 2024/25 season, shared his thoughts on the decision:
“Honestly, age wasn’t really an issue. I just believe that it’s better when everything happens at the right time. I want to continue in a direction where I can be more useful. Football is in my blood—my child also plays football. Our whole family is involved in the sport. From now on, I’ll be working as a coach, though I’m not ready to name the club just yet.”
Bayramov emphasized that he doesn't single out any club as more special than the others:
“I’ve been treated well everywhere I’ve played. I was respected by everyone—from club executives to the most junior staff. I started playing football at the age of 10 and I’m leaving at 40. Thirty years is no small thing. I’m grateful to everyone who contributed to my journey as a player.”
Over the course of his career, Kamal Bayramov played for several Azerbaijani clubs including Neftchi, Mughan, Turan Tovuz, Khazar Lankaran, Ravan, Araz-Nakhchivan, AZAL, Zira, Sabail, and Shamakhi.
