Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets have officially become the most experienced duo in professional football history.
The milestone was reached during Inter Miami’s MLS match against Orlando City on May 19, despite a 0-3 loss, Idman.biz reports.
As per IFFHS, the fixture marked the 621st time the legendary pair shared the pitch as teammates — a new world record for appearances together at the top level.
This achievement breaks the previous record of 620 matches, jointly held by Busquets and Gerard Piqué, who played together for Barcelona and Spain between 2009 and 2022 (533 matches for Barcelona and 87 for the national team).
Messi and Busquets first played alongside each other on September 13, 2008, in a La Liga match against Racing Santander that ended 1-1. Since then, their partnership has spanned nearly 17 years — first at Barcelona, then reunited at Inter Miami, with a two-year gap in between.
Their extraordinary chemistry and longevity are a testament to their elite football intelligence, consistency, and mutual understanding on the field — qualities that have now earned them a place in football history.
