Qarabag player Elvin Cafarquliyev sat down with Idman.biz to reflect on the season, address criticism, and speak about his temperament on the pitch.
– How would you evaluate the season?
– I think it was a good season for us. We became champions, and we deserved it. I congratulate all Qarabag fans, our coaching staff, and my teammates. This victory is a solid achievement for the domestic league. Unfortunately, our performance in European competitions didn’t go as we hoped. But I’m optimistic that we’ll do better next time.
– Which match stood out the most for you this season?
– Of course, there were also games I regret — I received a few red cards during the season. But the most memorable match for me was against Tottenham in the Europa League. Even though we lost, it was a game that left a good impression on me personally.
– Your contract with Qarabag ends next year. What are your thoughts?
– I’d rather not answer that question now. It’s too early to talk about it.
– Why do people think you’re so aggressive?
– Those who think I’m aggressive — if they knew me in real life, they wouldn’t say that. As soon as I step onto the field, I get fired up. Some things are beyond my control. Yes, I know I need to manage it better. But you can’t play football without aggression. It’s part of the game.
– Are you taking any steps to reduce that aggression?
– Absolutely. I’m working on myself. I try to prepare mentally before matches. I hope it gets better moving forward.
