Former football star David Beckham has become the sole owner of Salford City, a club competing in England’s League Two (fourth tier).
Previously a minority shareholder alongside his ex-Manchester United teammates Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, and Nicky Butt, Beckham now shares full ownership of the club only with Phil Neville, after taking over all other shares, Idman.biz reports.
Salford finished 8th this season with 69 points, narrowly missing out on the playoffs—only the teams placed 4th to 7th remain in contention for promotion. The top three teams have already secured direct promotion to League One (third tier).
With the season just concluded, a new era has begun at Salford, marked by major squad changes. The new leadership has already terminated the contracts of 17 players, including fan favorite and club legend Matthew Lund.
This decisive move signals Beckham and Neville’s intent to revamp the team after another unsuccessful promotion bid.
