Xabi Alonso has officially signed a three-year contract to become the new head coach of Real Madrid, succeeding Carlo Ancelotti.
The agreement, confirmed by multiple sources including journalist Josep Pedrerol on "El Chiringuito," will see Alonso take charge starting June 1, 2025, Idman.biz reports.
His debut is expected at the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins on June 14.
Alonso returns to Madrid, where he played from 2009 to 2014, after a successful managerial stint at Bayer Leverkusen. During his tenure, he led the team to their first-ever Bundesliga title in the 2023/24 season and achieved a domestic double by winning the DFB-Pokal.
As he steps into his new role, Alonso is reportedly planning to bring in key reinforcements. Notably, right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who recently announced his departure from Liverpool, is among the anticipated signings. Additionally, Real Madrid aims to strengthen their defense by acquiring a left-back and a central defender.
Alonso's appointment marks a new era for Real Madrid, with expectations high for both domestic and international success under his leadership.
