Chelsea, a two-time UEFA Champions League winner, is now closing in on its first-ever UEFA Europa Conference League title.
The London club will face Sweden’s Djurgardens in the semifinals — a team making its debut at this stage of European competition, Idman.biz reports.
Djurgardens featured Azerbaijan national team striker Musa Gurbanli during the 2023–2024 season.
Chelsea enters as the clear favorite in this matchup.
The other semifinal promises a much tighter battle between Spain’s Real Betis and Italy’s Fiorentina.
Betis, where Azerbaijani football legend Vali Gasimov played from 1993 to 1995, currently sits 6th in LaLiga. Fiorentina holds 8th place in Italy’s Serie A.
While the two clubs have yet to meet in an official match, Betis claimed a 3–1 win in a friendly against Fiorentina during the summer of 2022.
Notably, both semifinal first-leg games — Djurgardens vs Chelsea and Betis vs Fiorentina — will kick off today at 23:00 Baku time.
