Ramin Musayev, the former president of the Professional Football League (PFL), has responded to critics of the Azerbaijan Football Federation's (AFFA) former leadership.
Idman.biz reports that Musayev, when asked about the UEFA Nations League match between Switzerland and Azerbaijan, declined to comment, stating that discussing the game, which ended in a 0:6 loss, was futile: "In small countries, half of the football that we have is missing. There’s no point in crying about it. As long as youth football doesn't develop, this sport won't exist here. I've said this from the start. Youth teams are the foundation of football. Without a foundation, a house is temporary and will quickly collapse. Our football has no foundation."
Addressing those blaming the previous AFFA leadership, Musayev added, "Everyone has their own responsibility. Each person must answer to their conscience. When I was vice-president at Neftchi, our leader was Rovnag Abdullayev. He gave me all his authority. When we achieved success, everyone congratulated him. However, Abdullayev always said, ‘Don’t congratulate me, congratulate Ramin.’ Now, blaming the former AFFA leadership isn’t the answer. At that time, youth football was developing. Now everyone blames Abdullayev. But he didn’t come, ruin Azerbaijan football, and leave. Let’s see how many stadiums there were when Abdullayev took the post and how many there are now. Unfortunately, Azerbaijan football was abandoned, taking advantage of his good intentions. In time, everything will be openly discussed with facts, not on another channel, but directly on AzTV."
The Azerbaijan national team, having earned only one point in the Nations League C division, has been relegated to League D.
