Rodri, the midfielder for the Spanish national team and Manchester City, has made history by winning the prestigious Ballon d'Or award, breaking several longstanding streaks.
According to Idman.biz, for the first time in nine years, a player under the age of 30 has claimed this award.
At 28 years old, Rodri becomes the first winner since 2015 when Lionel Messi, then aged 28, took home the trophy.
All previous winners for the last eight years were over 30.
Moreover, Rodri's triumph marks the end of a 64-year drought for Spanish players. Since Luis Suárez won in 1960 as a midfielder for Barcelona, no player from Spain had been awarded the title.
Rodri’s achievement comes while he plays in the English Premier League, a feat last accomplished by Cristiano Ronaldo 16 years ago. Notably, he surpassed both Vinícius Júnior and Jude Bellingham in the race for this year’s award.
