Qarabag goalkeeper Andrey Lunev had a dream to play in England.
Idman.biz reports that he said this in a statement to the Russian press.
Lunev said that he received an offer from Newcastle, but did not want to remain in reserve: "I would love to play in England. An acquaintance told me about the possibility of moving to Newcastle and becoming the 3rd or 4th goalkeeper. They had key goalkeepers like Popp and Dubrovka. But I refused."
It should be noted that Lunev, who later moved to Qarabag, received an invitation to the Russian national team for the first time since 2018.
