Todd Boehly's era at Chelsea is reportedly approaching its end.
İdman.Biz reports, citing The Telegraph, that the American investor, together with partners Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss, has agreed to sell their 38.5 percent stake in Chelsea to Clearlake Capital for a small profit.
The deal would increase Clearlake's ownership in the Premier League club from 61.5 percent to 99.9 percent. According to the report, the agreement is now in the final stages of completion.
Boehly and Clearlake were part of the consortium that acquired Chelsea in 2022 following the departure of former owner Roman Abramovich. The takeover valued the club at £2.5 billion, while the new owners also committed to investing a further £1.75 billion in Chelsea's development.
Boehly became the most prominent public face of the new ownership and initially served as the club's interim sporting director. However, the 52-year-old American gradually stepped back from day-to-day operations, with Clearlake co-founder Behdad Eghbali taking a more active role in running the club.
Tensions between the ownership groups eventually led to discussions over a potential buyout, with negotiations over which side would acquire the other's stake beginning in 2024.
With Walter also reportedly seeking to exit the investment, Boehly's departure would bring the ownership dispute to an end and leave Eghbali and Clearlake co-founder Jose E. Feliciano effectively in control of Chelsea.
