Head of the Argentine Football Association accused of failing to pay social contributions worth millions of dollars

The prosecutor’s office has filed charges against the president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Claudio Tapia, over the non-payment of social contributions totaling 19 billion pesos, equivalent to approximately $12.8 million (21.7 million), İdman.Biz reports, citing TN.

Charges have been brought against Tapia as well as AFA treasurer Pablo Toviggino. The investigation was launched following a complaint from Argentina’s tax authority, which found that the football association had failed to transfer pension contributions for AFA employees and those of the country’s largest football clubs.

It was previously reported that the Argentina national team could be suspended from participation in the 2026 World Cup due to the investigation being carried out by law enforcement authorities against Tapia.

New searches have been conducted as part of the case. In addition to Tapia and Toviggino, the investigation also involves the association’s deputy treasurer Luciano Nakis. All three are suspected of illicit enrichment.
