English football club Liverpool are planning to hold a face-to-face meeting with the agent of forward Mohamed Salah during the Africa Cup of Nations, Idman.Biz reports, citing the Daily Mail.
According to the source, the Merseyside club’s sporting director Richard Hughes intends to discuss the Egyptian star’s future with his agent, Rami Abbas, while the player is with the Egypt national team. The meeting could prove decisive in determining the next stage of Salah’s career.
The situation surrounding Salah escalated earlier this month after his high-profile comments following a 3:3 draw with Leeds, when the forward publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the club’s actions. As a result, he was left out of the starting lineup for Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League match against Inter, but later returned to the squad against Brighton, coming off the bench and providing an assist. Liverpool head coach Arne Slot stated that the conflict had been resolved and that all parties had “moved on.”
The match against Brighton was Salah’s last appearance for Liverpool before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations. At the tournament, he has already made headlines by scoring the winning goal in Egypt’s opening match against Zimbabwe (2:1).
At the same time, speculation over a possible move to the Saudi Pro League continues to intensify. League chief executive Omar Mugharbel has previously confirmed interest from several Saudi clubs, noting that Salah is considered one of their priority targets.
However, it is expected that Liverpool will not part ways with the Egyptian forward during the winter transfer window. A potential transfer could be postponed until the summer due to the serious injury sustained by Alexander Isak, who is set to miss several months after suffering an ankle fracture. This development significantly complicates the possibility of a January departure for one of Liverpool’s key attacking players.
It should be recalled that Liverpool are set to face Agdam-based Qarabag in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League, with the two sides scheduled to meet on January 28, 2026.
