Real Madrid closed out the year with a 2:0 victory over Sevilla, but a large section of the club’s supporters remain unhappy with the team’s overall performances, Idman.Biz reports.
According to a poll conducted by MARCA among more than 100,000 Real Madrid fans, 61 percent of respondents believe the players are the main problem facing the team. Another 23 percent place responsibility on the club’s management, while only 16 percent blame head coach Xabi Alonso. At the same time, 76 percent of fans support continuing to trust the coach while strengthening the squad.
The harshest criticism was directed at winger Vinicius Junior. As many as 86 percent of those surveyed said the best solution would be to sell the 25-year-old Brazilian, considering his situation at the club to be hopeless. The remaining 14 percent were split between backing the player and waiting for an improvement in his form.
Fan frustration was also evident during the match against Sevilla, when Vinicius was booed as he was substituted. Shortly after the game, the forward changed his profile photo on social media from a Real Madrid kit to a Brazil national team shirt, further fueling tension around his future. It is also reported that the club does not plan to improve the terms of his new contract.
After 18 rounds of La Liga, Real Madrid sit second in the standings with 42 points.
