Ajax remains without points in the UEFA Champions League and sees the upcoming match in Baku against Qarabag as a chance to earn their first.
Idman.Biz reports that in the recent Matchday 5 of the group stage, Ajax lost 0:2 at home to Benfica, leaving them as the only team in the tournament yet to collect points, anchoring the bottom of the table.
Acting head coach Fred Grim acknowledged the team’s objective for the upcoming trip: “We want to get rid of this hated zero. We are currently restructuring the team and hope it will pay off in the next matches,” Dutch media quoted him.
The Qarabag vs Ajax match will take place on 10 December at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium in Baku, starting at 21:45 local time. Around 1,400 Ajax supporters are expected to travel from the Netherlands.
Qarabag, having lost 0:2 to Napoli in Matchday 5, sits 19th with seven points. The upcoming match could be decisive for coach Gurban Gurbanov’s side in the fight for a top-24 spot, which grants a place in the playoff stage.
