Hannes Halldorsson is the only Icelandic footballer to have played in the Azerbaijani championship. The 41-year-old former goalkeeper wore the “Qarabag” jersey during the 2018/2019 season. Halldorsson, who retired in 2022, appeared in 77 matches for the Iceland national team between 2011 and 2021.
