“There’s no need to talk much about Athletic Bilbao. Their level and the quality of their players are well known to everyone. A very tough game awaits us,” said Qarabag footballer Leandro Andrade in an interview with Telegraf.
The 25-year-old midfielder described their 2:1 victory over Turan Tovuz in the VIII round of the Azerbaijan Premier League as a final preparation for next week’s Champions League group stage match against Athletic Bilbao (Spain):
“This match was a kind of test for us. Facing such an opponent before playing against a team of that level is a good trial. Like in previous games, we will go onto the pitch and just try to enjoy the match. We will play in a magnificent stadium with an incredible atmosphere, which also boosts our motivation. We will try to showcase our style of play. Of course, I want to score. Every player wishes to contribute to their team’s victory. But whether I score or not, only God knows.”
Regarding claims that he refused a call-up despite Cape Verde qualifying for the 2026 World Cup final stage, and whether he would go if invited, Andrade reacted: “I haven’t thought about this matter. Therefore, I don’t want to comment.”
