The experienced coach shared his thoughts ahead of Qarabag’s UEFA Champions League group stage Round 2 match against Denmark’s Copenhagen in Baku: “We approach this match responsibly. We will play against a strong team. Copenhagen is a serious opponent.”
Gurbanov also highlighted his satisfaction with the attention Qarabag receives in European football: “Victory makes football even more enjoyable. It builds confidence in our players. Investing in this field inspires people. Football is the king of sports. We play a small part in promoting our country. This increases our responsibility. Our fans come to matches with hope, and we understand that. When a player feels excitement, it comes from responsibility. In sports, once you’re involved, fear and nervousness disappear. You must understand this going into the game. Experiencing excitement for all 90 minutes is a problem, which we don’t have.”
He noted that players feel more comfortable at the Republic Stadium: “We could have played at the Baku Olympic Stadium, but the arena is not ready. The stadium factor always matters. Currently, our players feel comfortable here. Even at the Olympic Stadium, we would have approached it with the same responsibility.”
The Qarabag vs. Copenhagen match will take place on October 1 at 20:45 at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium.
