Our fencers participated in the World Championship held in Tbilisi, Georgia.
The Azerbaijani women’s national sabre team placed 13th in the competition, Idman.biz reports.
The team consisting of Leyla Ahmadova, Sabina Karimova, and Palina Kaspiarovich defeated the Singapore team 45:33 in their opening match. However, they lost 26:45 to the USA in the round of 16, missing the chance to break into the top eight.
In the classification matches for 9th–16th places, our team was defeated by Egypt 37:45 but went on to beat Hong Kong (45:39) and Ukraine (45:44).
In the individual women's sabre competition, Palina Kaspiarovich and Sabina Karimova advanced past the group stage and reached the round of 64, but both lost in the matches for the round of 32. Leyla Ahmadova was eliminated in the group stage.
The men's sabre team, composed of Saleh Mammadov, Murad Akbarov, Magsud Huseynli, and Abbas Huseynov, lost 19:45 to France.
In the men’s individual sabre competition, Magsud Huseynli, Murad Akbarov, and Saleh Mammadov were defeated in the playoffs. Abbas Huseynov failed to pass the group stage.
In the men’s individual epee event, Ruslan Hasanov advanced past the group stage but was defeated in the playoff match for a spot in the round of 64.
