“It’s getting harder for me to play in three consecutive tournaments,” said Azerbaijani chess player Azer Mirzoev in an interview with Idman.biz.
Evaluating his recent competitions in Cuba and the Bahamas, the grandmaster noted:
“I played in the Capablanca and Garcia Memorials in Cuba in May. Since the Bahamas are very close, I decided to participate in the tournament there as well. I had a successful run in Cuba. But I can’t say the same about the ‘Orjan Lindroth Memorial’ in the Bahamas. I lost three games during that tournament — that’s quite a lot. In contrast, I played 18 games in the two tournaments in Cuba and remained undefeated. In Cuba, there was one game per day, whereas in the Bahamas we had two rounds daily, which made fatigue a real factor.”
Mirzoev also shared his plans for the near future:
“In the fall, we’ll have the European and World Championships for youth and juniors. In the coming months, I’m planning to help prepare our national team’s young players for those events.”
Notably, Mirzoev placed 9th at the Orjan Lindroth Memorial held in Nassau, Bahamas.
