FIDE has released the updated chess world rankings for May, featuring eight Azerbaijani players in the Top 100.
Among the men, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov remains Azerbaijan’s highest-ranked player, though he dropped one spot to 14th place with 2746 Elo points. Fellow grandmaster Teimour Radjabov also slipped one position and now sits 40th with 2692 points. Rauf Mamedov held steady in 69th place with 2657 points, Idman.biz reports.
The world rankings continue to be led by Norway's Magnus Carlsen, who holds a commanding 2837 rating.
In the women’s rankings, Govhar Beydullayeva leads the Azerbaijani contingent despite an 8-place drop to 53rd with 2394 points. Gunay Mammadzada fell four spots to 57th (2390), while Ulviyya Fataliyeva slid ten places to 67th (2374). Khanim Balajayeva climbed three positions to 82nd (2358).
Gulnar Mammadova made a notable return to the Top 100, moving into 91st place with 2352 Elo points.
