The "Great Silk Road" international tournament between male and female boxers has started in Baku.
Idman.biz reports that 3 members of the Azerbaijan national team won on the first day of the competition in which 121 athletes from 11 countries participated.
In 57 kg, Shamil Asgarov defeated Russian Dmitri Shipovsky with a score of 3:2 (28:29, 29:28, 28:29, 30:27, 30:27). He will fight Godir Akhtamov (Uzbekistan) in the 1/4 finals.
Ruslan Rustamov (63.5 kg) also started the competition with a victory. He defeated Kazakh Serik Temirjanov - 3:2 (26:29, 28:27, 28:27, 28:27, 26:29). Our boxer's opponent in the 1/4 finals will be Ilya Popov (Russia).
Mahammad Abdullayev, who won a license for the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games, also qualified. The winner of the world championship fighting at +92 kg won the quarter finals with full advantage over his teammate Yohannes Nuriyev and secured at least the bronze medal. Abdullayev will clarify his relationship with Uzbekistan's Jahongir Zokirov in the semi-finals.
It should be noted that the fights of the second day of the competition held at the Boxing Center will start at 14:00. The finals of the tournament will be held on March 28.
