The final series of the Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL) is set to make history.
The showdown between Sabah and Neftchi has already become the league’s longest final in the past 15 years, Idman.biz reports.
With the series tied 2-2 after four games, at least two more matches will be needed to decide the champion — meaning the series will consist of at least six games.
Since 2010, no final has lasted this long. One key reason is the league’s requirement that the winner must claim four victories to secure the title.
In previous years, the finals were played as best-of-three or even best-of-two series, and at times a league system was used to determine the champion. The previous longest series took place two years ago when Sabah defeated Ganja 3-2 over five games in 2023.
The fifth game between Neftchi and Sabah is scheduled for May 11.
