"We started training on October 15. The preparation with the 12 players in Azerbaijan continues five days a week."
This was stated by Evren Alkaya, the head coach of Azerbaijan women's national basketball team, as reported by Idman.biz.
The Turkish specialist shared his thoughts ahead of the upcoming EuroBasket qualifiers against Poland and Lithuania. Alkaya emphasized that they have analyzed their opponents thoroughly: "We have watched all of Poland's matches. We also reviewed Lithuania's previous games against us and Poland. This allowed us to work extensively on our defensive systems before the games. We know it will be very challenging because our team consists of 7-8 players from the U16 and U18 national teams. Only 2 or 3 of our players are at this level. Naturally, it is difficult to compete against teams that are always ambitious in Europe with such a roster. We will fight as much as we can and strive to represent our country in the best way possible. Our goals with this team will emerge in 4 or 5 years. Right now, our main goal is to ensure our young players gain experience. I hope we will return with the best results."
The Azerbaijan national team will face Poland on November 7 and Lithuania three days later, with both matches taking place in Poland.
