Evren Alkaya, head coach of the Sarhadchi basketball club, recently commented on his team's performance during a test match against Guba, which ended in a 66:60 victory.
In his remarks, Alkaya highlighted the importance of this match in assessing the team’s strengths: “Coaches test their teams before the season. We tested our team in the game against Guba.” He acknowledged that while the team secured the win, there were defensive lapses that need to be addressed. “It is true that sometimes we could not react defensively against Guba. This is due to the fact that it is a new team, and our defensive line is still not exactly what we want.”
Despite these challenges, the Turkish specialist expressed satisfaction with the overall performance of his players. “I am satisfied with the quality of my players. We showed our strength where needed and played fast. We gained an advantage in the areas we targeted. Indeed, the first matches cannot fully reveal our potential, but we will hold friendly matches to prepare for the official games. I hope we will perform at the highest level.”
Looking ahead, Sarhadchi is set to face Sabah as guests on October 20 in the first round of the new ABL season.
