32nd winter break – the third time in history

The winter break in the Azerbaijan Premier League will end this week.

Idman.biz reports that following a 27-day break, the National Championship, the most recent of which took place on December 24, will resume.
This is the shortest break in the race's 32-year history. The clubs that took vacations on the same day in 2020–2021 kept up their fights simultaneously. There was no championship match between December 24, 2020, and January 21, 2021.

Last season, the winter break lasted 29 days. Except for these three championships, the teams have never rested for less than a month.

This is the 32nd winter break in the national championships held since 1992. Two of them were different. The 1992 and 1993 seasons were organized by the "spring-autumn" system. At that time, the winter break was not inter-cycle, but inter-seasonal. At that time, the 110-day rest of the clubs can be considered a record.

The break between 2002 and 2003 took 399 days. This is due to the non-football period. The clubs that interrupted the 2001/02 season by boycotting started the 2003/04 season after a break of more than a year.

Excluding these two unusual breaks, the longest winter break occurred in the 2000/01 season. The longest break of the championships, which were held with the "autumn-spring" system and were not interrupted, lasted 110 days. Clubs that rested from November 12, 2000 to March 3, 2021 were on break for almost 4 months.

In the 2003/04 season, this period took more than 3 months. The cause of such a break is that the championship takes place after the absence of football and covers a total of 13 months. The break of the competition, which lasted from May to May, also lasted for a long time.

In short, the winter break lasted less than one month three times and more than three months four times. The most optimal period is 1.5-2 months. The winter break was equal to this interval 14 times. Rest, which was equal to 2-3 months six times, took 1-1.5 months in five seasons.
